The Outstanding Martial Arts Athletes Award

Established in 2007, the Outstanding Martial Arts Athletes Award is dedicated to promoting the spirit of martial arts and encourage Lingnan University students to pursue excellence in this field. Over the past 19 years, senior alumni Mr. Nicky Tse and Ms. Heidi Ng jointly supported the LU athletes in pursuing their aspirations in their martial arts sports. The two founders deeply understand that martial arts is not merely a discipline of physical strength and technique, but also embodies the core values of perseverance, self-discipline, and respect. Through this scholarship, they wish to give back to their alma mater and foster a vibrant martial arts culture on campus.


The scholarship aims to encourage active participation in martial arts and recognise Lingnan University students and team members who have achieved outstanding results in martial arts. Whether in traditional forms, combat competitions, or weapon routines, those who demonstrate passion, dedication in training, and exceptional potential or good character in competitions on and off campus are eligible for consideration. The scholarship not only affirms students’ athletic achievements but also hopes to ease their financial burden, allowing them to focus on improvement while balancing academic studies and martial arts training.

Award Founders
Mr. Nicky Tse

Mr. Nicky Tse was admitted as a solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong, a Notary Public, and a China-Appointed Attesting Officer. He has been honored by the Lexology Index (Formerly Who’s Who Legal) as the No. 1 Sports Lawyer in Hong Kong for 2026–2027.

In addition to his legal expertise, Nicky is an accomplished martial artist. He holds a 5th Dan black belt from Kukkiwon. During his time as an athlete, he served the Hong Kong Taekwondo Team and led Lingnan University Taekwondo Team as head coach for 4 years. He retired from competitive sports in 2007 after he joined the legal profession.

Ms. Heidi Ng
Ms. Heidi Ng currently serves as the Head of Security, Risk & Resilience, APAC at Ralph Lauren. In addition to her professional role, Ms. Ng holds a 4th Dan black belt in Taekwondo from Kukkiwon.
